2024 Shop with a Cop

This year, with the help of UCPA, the Davis County Fraternal Order of Police were able to hold another successful Cops and Kids Event. The event began at Texas Roadhouse in West Bountiful where 75 children were accommodated with breakfast and the opportunity to sit with a law enforcement officer. Just over 80 Davis County FOP members showed their support and service as each child was assigned an officer. Following breakfast, Officers drove their assigned children to the Walmart in Centerville where each child was able to shop for Christmas gifts. Our hearts are always touched as these selfless children begin grabbing items for their entire family, not just themselves. With the help of UCPA, Officers, family members, Texas Roadhouse, donors, and community members, over 100 volunteers came together to provide Christmas gifts to families that otherwise would have nothing.

Thank you so much for all you do for our community and especially the Davis County FOP lodge. We could not be more grateful.

Our annual Shop with a Cop event took place on Saturday, December 21, 2024. We started off our day meeting at Jennifer Leavitt Student Center—Eastern where a breakfast was donated by McDonalds.

The kids had a moment to sit and talk with officers and then were loaded up in patrol vehicles where a parade of sorts followed from USU-Eastern through Price to Walmart with the kids in full control of the lights, sirens, and PA Systems.

Once at Walmart, the kids, their family members, and officers began the fun of shopping. Many tears of joy were shared with a lot of officers fighting back emotions.

Our annual Shop with a Cop event envelopes law enforcement agencies from throughout Carbon County to include the Price City Police Department, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, the Wellington City Police Department, the Helper City Police Department, the East Carbon City Police Department, the Utah Highway Patrol, Adult Probation and Parole, and USU-E Police Department.

This year we were able to help more kids than ever, including several children with severe health issues who, without the program, would have had nothing this holiday season. This year we also had two families that could not attend on the 21st, so officers make arrangements to take the kids on a separate day and created a special event for them and their families.

We could not have done this without the donations and involvement of Utah Police Civilian Association, Walmart, McDonalds, Utah State University—Easern’s dining services, Bethel 3 Jobs Daughters International, the Elks Lodge of Price, Kamatsu Mining Corp., the Hope Squad of Carbon and Emory County, Peczuh Printing, Pierce Oil, Utah Mine Workers Association, Cody Westenskow, Castleview Hospital, Mitchell’s Mortuary, Sitterud Law, Cache Valley Bank, Utah Power Credit Union, Swanson Industries, and the numerous community donations.

This year we were able to sponsor 25 children, thanks in part to the generous donation from UPCA. The children chosen to participate were so great, they were shy, funny, wild, sweet, happy… just a wide range of emotions. They, along with their parents, were very grateful for this opportunity.

Miss Utah Teen Volunteer, Haivyn Pitchforth, volunteered her time to attend our event and hand out filled stockings to the participating children and to other children at Walmart. We also had 13 law enforcement spouses help with the shopping.

December 2017 – Shop With A Cop

The first three Saturdays in December saw an abundance of smiles as eleven annual “Shop With A Cop” events were held in communities across Utah. The Utah Police Civilian Association is honored to have been able to help officers across thirteen counties as they brought these smiles to the faces of close to 1,400 children this year. These events are a culmination of efforts by officers, volunteers, and donors who work all year to make these events happen for children who are considered disadvantaged or at-risk. To all of these wonderful people, we would like to say “Thank You.”

The following photo’s are from some of the events.

She was the go-to person who coordinated the volunteers and supplies, and made sure all the gifts were wrapped for all the kids who participated. August 9, 2017 – “Tools for Schools”

Dave and Deb, the morning team from radio station Z-104.3, lived in a school bus for three whole days 24/7 while they asked their listeners to fill three buses with school supplies for kids in need. These supplies, and the money raised, went to seven school districts along the Wasatch Front. The Utah Police Civilian Association is proud that we were able to fill some of those needs with a load of supplies and a healthy donation.

Backpack’s were one of the badly needed items.

We were able to fill the back of the Jeep with school supplies, 30 pairs of shoes, socks, underwear, and more for the kids.

Summer Event 2017

In June the Garfield County Sheriff Department, in conjunction with the annual “Balloon Festival, met and provided over 1,500 kids with safety information, t-shirts, and other surprises. This is an annual event for the officers and we were proud to have been invited to take part. This event falls right into our goal of bringing  “Cops, Kids and Community” together in positive ways. Please check out these photo’s.

“Shop With A Cop” 2016

This year the Utah Police Civilian Association was able to help with 10 different events in 10 different counties across the state. We have chosen to highlight the “Shop With A Cop” event in Duchesne County, Utah. Roosevelt P.D. hosted the event with the Duchesne Co. Sheriff Dept., Highway Patrol, Roosevelt Fire and EMS, Department of Interior officers, and the Boy Scouts on-board to help. Judging from the smiles on these faces, this  was a very successful event. The local McDonald’s provided breakfast for everyone. Kids and cops shopped till they dropped, getting the warm clothes they needed and the many things they wanted to make Christmas special. Please enjoy the photo’s from this special event.
